MEET ANDE

a wee bit about the student whom you may have just met or listened to their presentation

Hello, my name is Ande and my pronouns are they/them.

I love tending plants, pedaling bikes, cuddling cats, reading fantasy novels and scholarly articles.

My life "professional" journey began with an early career in creative media design and storytelling. I had the fortune of creating, working with, and learning from talented professionals from an array of socio-economic and creative backgrounds.

While building community in various cultures, again and again I was confronted by the irrational disparities in health. When my best friend suffered a life changing spinal cord injury, I began to witness a whole new gamete of inequity wheel chair users face daily.

My pursuit of education in the physical sciences and critical medical anthropology, I feel, are the actions I can take to become a better ally to Indigenous populations, individuals living with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and marginalized people groups. My goal is to join the builders of equitable health systems, the minds at work on durable green biomedicine, the hands supporting underrepresented students, and the voices of the unheard.

My research hero's are Dr. Naomi Lee, Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, Dr. Emery Eaves, and Dr. Paul Farmer. I believe in a better world, one that builds health and resource equity.
